Biography

Texts/press

For Marie Côté, the foundation is pottery. She still finds pleasure at throwing a pot, although nowadays she mainly creates sculptures and installations. She draws her inspiration from this initial experience, i.e. that the source of any form is a void. Like a pot needing to be filled, her work seeks to reveal the complex experience that links an object to space. If an empty space can easily be imagined, one cannot conceive an object without space. From her first installations bringing to light shadows to her recent collaborative work with musicians, the active force between space and matter nourishes her imagination.

Marie Côté lives and works in Montréal
